Dietmar Köhlbichler

Dietmar Köhlbichler (born 13 September 1963 Breitenwang ) is a former Austrian alpine skier. The slalom specialist was 1984 European Cup overall winner and achieved two podium finishes in the World Cup.

Career

Köhlbichler was included in the national squad of the Austrian Ski beginning of the 1980s, and played in the winter 1982/83 his first race in the World Cup, where he initially but had no points profit. He had great success in the European Cup in the 1983 season / 84th With two victories in the slalom and combination he could decide both the discipline ratings and the overall rating for themselves.

In winter 1984/85 Köhlbichler took 15th place in the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio and Kranjska Gora his first World Cup points. At the beginning of the 1985/86 season he finished fifth in Sestriere and in January he succeeded in Kitzbühel, the first podium when he finished third at the same time with the Liechtenstein Andreas Wenzel. With two more top ten results he reached the tenth place in the slalom World Cup. At the end of the season he was able to score in this discipline with tenth place in the first giant slalom in Lake Placid for the first and only time.

On 18 January 1987, the Tyrolean achieved his best World Cup result when he finished second behind the Swiss Joël Gaspoz in slalom in Wengen. Overall, he came in the 1986/87 season four times in the top ten that finished seventh place in the slalom World Cup. At the 1987 World Championships in Crans -Montana, however, he had no success. After Rank 17 in the first round, he fell from the second run.

In the following season Köhlbichler came three times into the top ten, his best result was sixth place in the slalom in Lienz. But that he could not qualify for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games within the Austrian team. Despite the Austrian slalom champion title Köhlbichler ended after the winter his World Cup career and he moved to the professional race. Due to a knee injury, he eventually had to quit all his career.

After his playing career Köhlbichler trained as a Certified Coaches Alpine and was a coach at SC Pfronten. In 2000, he was next to the German Peter Eigler co-founder of the ski base Head, where he now works as a coach.

Today Köhlbichler spends the summer in the Bad Kissinger Hütte as a landlord. In winter, when the cottage is not hosted, he is in a ski school in Tannheim (Tirol ) Skiuntericht for children.
