Diocese of Oulu

The Diocese of Oulu is one of nine dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. The diocese is the northernmost Finland and its bishop since 2001 Samuel Salmi.

The diocese was founded in 1851 as the Diocese of Kuopio. In 1900 the bishopric of Kuopio was moved to Oulu, but the name was changed to " Diocese of Oulu " until 1923. The Diocese of Oulu covers most of the landscape and the landscape Lapland Northern Ostrobothnia. Bishop's seat is the Cathedral of Oulu.
