Diomidis Kyriakos

Diomidis Kyriakos Anastasiou (Greek Διομήδης Α Κυριακός, * 1811 in Spetses, . † 1869 in Italy) was a Greek politician and Prime Minister and author of scientific books.

Family and studies

Kyriakos was the younger brother of Vice Admiral Ioannis Kyriakos, who fell during the Revolutionary War at the siege of Missolonghi. His grandson Alexandros Diomidis was also Prime Minister.

He graduated in law at the universities of Pisa and Paris. 1835 he was appointed prosecutor and public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance. As a renowned legal scholar in 1843, he helped in the drafting of the Constitution of 1844. 1851 he was appointed Professor of Constitutional Law. As such, he was from 1862 and the Commission to draft the constitution of 1864. As a professor, he published a number of jurisprudential and historical books.

Political career

In 1863 he was Minister of religion and education. From 9 April to 10 May 1863, he finally was Prime Minister of the transitional government.
