Distributed Management Task Force

Distributed Management Task Force ( DMTF, formerly Desktop Management Task Force ) is a standardization organization of companies in the IT industry.

The DMTF was founded in 1992. Industrial manufacturers and users are organized in joint working groups to coordinate the development, adaptation and interoperability standards for system management and initiatives for the coordination of system management in enterprise and Internet environments in it.

The DMTF consists of more than 200 companies, including AMD, CA, Cisco, Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, Hewlett -Packard, Hitachi, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Symantec, WBEM Solutions.

The Common Information Model (CIM) is the most important standard of the DMTF. It governs the exchange of information in a platform-independent and technology- neutral form. Objective is to rationalize and reduce costs in the integration of different systems. The standards ensure the interaction between products from different manufacturers without consuming data conversion.

Standards of DMTF

  • Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM ) - extension of CIM to interoperate over the Internet
  • Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware ( SMASH ) - System management standards for server hardware
  • System Management BIOS ( SMBIOS ) - System Management BIOS-level
  • Alert Standard Format (ASF ) - System management standards for equipment without operating system
  • Directory Enabled Network ( DEN) - CIM organization directory-based
  • (DMI ) Desktop Management Interface - First DMTF system management standard, is now no longer being developed
