Donald Ramotar

Donald Rabindranauth Ramotar ( born October 22, 1950 in Caria Caria, Guyana ) is a Guyanese politician and, since December 3, 2011 President of Guyana.

Life

Donald Ramotar was born in an Indian-born, large family in the remote village of Caria Caria on the lower reaches of the Essequibo.

He studied economics at the University of Guyana and in Moscow and went through following professional positions:

Career in the People's Progressive Party

In 1967 he had joined the PPP, since 1979 he was a member of the Central Committee. Since 1983 he was a member of the party executive. Since 1997 ( after the death of Cheddi Jagan ) he is party leader.

After the election victory of his party in the parliamentary elections on November 28, 2011 Donald Ramotar was on December 3, 2011 as the successor to President Bharrat Jagdeo of Guyana.
