Donji Milanovac

Donji Milanovac ( Serbian Cyrillic Доњи Милановац ) is a small town in the municipality of Majdanpek in Bor district in the east of Serbia. It is located on the right bank of the Danube near the Iron Gate. About ten miles north of the present-day Donji Milanovac is the 9,000 year old archeological site Lepenski Vir.

History

The first mention of Poreč as there was in the 15th century. At this time the place was on the same Danube Island. Due to frequent flooding of the city in 1830 was moved to the right bank of the Danube. He was given the name Milanovac after the eldest son of Serbian prince Miloš Obrenović, who in turn in 1839 as Milan Obrenović, Prince of Serbia was I.. In 1856 she received the name Donji Milanovac because Gornji Milanovac was founded in central Serbia in the same year.

With the construction of the dam and hydroelectric power plant Djerdap I in 1970 the town was moved again to a higher location.
