In the district sleeves remains of a longhouse from the time of Christ's birth were found during excavations. The earliest recorded mention is demonstrated for Barme and Drübber 1076-1084 AD. The church today is in the Aller- Weser triangle, which was fought between the bishops of Verden, the Duchy of Brunswick -Lüneburg and the County of Hoya. Only in 1575 there was a settlement between the parties. After the extinction of Hoyaer counts and the end of the bishopric of Verden after the Thirty Years War, the region fell to the Dukes of Brunswick- Lüneburg.

Of economic importance of the connection to the railway network (1847 ), the reduction of rock salt deposits in sleeves and ancestor Bergen ( 1911), the Weser barrage with lock and power plant (1912 ) and the construction were in modern times of a gunpowder factory of Eibia in the forest between Dörverden and Barme (from 1934).

The Lower Barracks was completed in 1958 and was until the site closed in 2003 purchased from the Bundeswehr. Since April 2010, is located on the former barracks a Wolf Center.

Place name

The Claudius Ptolemy († 175 ) mentioned " Tulifurdon " has long been accepted as Dörverden, but other places claim the same for themselves (eg Daverden, Verden and Hannover). The name suffix - verde means ford.

There is an anecdotal explanations for the place name: A hiker came from the north and wanted to Verden, but was so exhausted that he exclaimed: "Oh I have to die in the sand ". At this point, the town of Achim was born. But he could go further. At last he saw from afar Verden. Redeemed he cried, "There Verden "; at this point was the place Daverden. He came to Verden and recovered. But it did not please him there. He wandered further south and called liberated: "Finally, dör Verden "; at this point was the place Dörverden.

Culture and sights

Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Cosmae et Damiani is a rectangular hall church, Romanesque in the core. The three western yokes are built in the Romanesque style from Porta sandstone. The western yoke still leaves to its enormous wall thickness realize that it originally bore the tower. In the 15th century the church was extended eastwards by a brick cultivation in the width of the old ship. The Ostabschluss forms a gable with slender pointed arch blind arches. The church windows were enlarged later in some rough way. After the old tower was go missing, Conrad Wilhelm Hase 1877/78 added to a neo-Gothic church steeple on the west side of the church. The interior of the church is vaulted. The walls of the Romanesque part have the remains of a Roman wall structure, which are covered by the service pillar and shield ribs of the vault in part; obviously the vault was added only later. The late Gothic cultivation in the East was originally covered by a six- star vault. After this vault was removed in 1843, the eastern part is spanned since 1962 by two yokes, each with four-part band ribbed vault of stucco. Located on the walls of the eastern part at eye level, a circumferential arch frieze. The Baroque altarpiece was designed in 1750 by the Verden artist Arnold Meyer. In the middle he wears a panel showing Mary and the disciple John, beneath the cross of Christ. The pulpit dates from the Rococo and has typical rocaille ornamentation on. She was put in place of the panel painting later in the altarpiece; today it stands freely on the north side of the choir. The baptismal font dates from the 13th century and has the shape of an inverted Faltkuppel; because the original foot is missing, it is now set to an old millstone. The Church in Dörverden was formerly closely associated with the Verden Cathedral. Supposedly it was built at the same time with him. She was one loud recording of church visitation of 1585 to the board of the benefice bishop of Verden and the Domdekan awarded the pastorate. Today it belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Verden.
