Doug Bodger

Douglas Bodger ( born June 18, 1966 in Chemainus, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach. During his career he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League.

Career

Bodger first played from 1982 to 1984 in the Western Hockey League with the Kamloops Junior Oilers with whom he reached the final tournament, the Memorial Cup in the 1983/84 season after the team the championship title of the WHL, the President's Cup, had won. His outstanding offensive qualities bestowed the defender that he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1984 in the first round at the ninth position of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins got him right in the 1984/85 season in the NHL, where he remained until the season 1988/89 into it. Early on in the season he is for Tom Barrasso to the Buffalo Sabres. There the Canadians played until December 1995. Bodger In Buffalo had in the game year 1992/93 his best NHL season with 54 points in 81 games. When the Sabres newly oriented, they gave from Bodger to the San Jose Sharks, where he continued helping the young defensive with his experience. After three years in San Jose Bodger had to move to New Jersey. This gave in the summer of 1998 off after only half a year to the Los Angeles Kings, where he played the entire 1998/99 season. In the summer of 1999 Bodger signed as a free agent contract with the Vancouver Canucks, near his hometown. He finished his career after only 13 games in the season in December 1999.

After end of his career as an active player, he spent several seasons as an assistant coach with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Hockey League.

Internationally

Bodger participated in the World Championships in 1987, 1996 and 1999 for the Canadian national team. In 1996 he won the silver medal after a 2:4 - final defeat against the Czech Republic.
