Doug Scott

Doug Scott, CBE (actually Douglas Keith Scott, * May 29, 1941 in Nottingham ) was mainly in the 1970s and 80s, one of the best British mountaineer and is considered one of the most successful high altitude climbers of all time. He received in 1994 the title of " Commander of the Order of the British Empire" and 1999, the Patron's Gold Medal of the Royal Geographical Society. From 1999 to 2001 he was President of the British Alpine Club. Doug Scott is married to Indian mountaineer Sharavati ( Sharu ) Prabhu.

2011 Doug Scott received the Piolet d'Or for his life's work.

Special mountaineering achievements

More by Doug Scott climbed peaks are Baruntse, the Latok III, Makalu, Mount Kenya and the Pik Lenin. He also climbed by the first Briton 's famous Salathé Wall on El Capitan (1971).

Overall, Doug Scott was involved 45 expeditions to the high mountains of Asia, where it reached 40 summits. All these ascents were either first ascents, first ascents of new routes or first ascents in alpine style. Apart from the Mount Everest in 1975 exceeded all tours were conducted with a minimum of equipment.

Also noteworthy is his commitment to charity: he founded the Foundation Community Action Nepal to improve the living conditions of the indigenous mountain people in Nepal. He also fought for fair working conditions of the carriers that are hired by mountaineering expeditions to the luggage transport to base camp and often have to do hard physical work for the lowest wages.
