Douro Litoral Province

Douro Litoral (English about: Douro coast ) was from 1936 to 1976 one of the eleven provinces of Portugal. They exist today only in the vernacular, or historically based terms.

Porto was the capital of the province, today the district of Porto, four circles ( Concelhos ) of the District of Aveiro ( Arouca, Castelo de Paiva Espinho and Santa Maria da Feira ), and two circles of the district Viseu included ( Cinfães and Resende ). To the west bordering on the Atlantic, the other neighboring provinces of Minho in the north, Trás -os- Montes e Alto Douro were in the Northeast, Beira Alta in the southeast, and Beira Litoral in the south.

The province was of varied economic activity, and marked by the eponymous Douro river and its vineyards. She was also characterized by urban sprawl, which has greatly increased today, especially in the metropolitan area of ​​the city of Porto.
