Draßburg (Croatian: Rasporak, Hungarian: Darufalva ) is a municipality with 1164 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Matter castle district in Burgenland in Austria.

In the village there are numerous members of the Burgenland- Croatian minority.

Geography

Draßburg located in the northern Burgenland and is the only place in the community.

History

1933, the Venus of Draßburg was a 9.5 cm Venus figure, created around 5200 BC found in Draßburg. Because of the ornaments she is assigned to the Linear Pottery culture. Before Christ's birth, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill. Later, under the Romans today Draßburg then lay in the province of Pannonia.

On a terrace of Taborac, the remnants of a hill west of the train Draßburg, up to 370 m above sea level. M. reached, even those discovered from the La Tène period in 1904 next to the Neolithic, Roman and medieval finds. The main object was a latènezeitlicher bangle with pseudo filigree ornaments. Between 1933 and 1934 more objects have been discovered from this period during excavations by the National Museum of Burgenland. All the finds had been dug in the neolithic soil layer. 1955 was found more objects from the late La Tène period. The settlement marks on the Taborac be dated AD for the period from the second half of the 1st century BC to the first half of the 1st century.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Darufalva. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

Attractions

The Draßburg Castle is located in the district Untergut. The corresponding historical baroque castle park with its extensive collection of sculptures by the sculptor Jacob Schletterer is art-historically significant and to be among the most important Baroque historic parks in Austria. The park is graded on several terraces and created with glass houses. The castle itself was built in the 15th century, over two levels with horseshoe-shaped floor plan, court arcades and a three-storey building turmartigem, rebuilt several times in the 17th and 18th centuries. The castle was rebuilt in the 1960s as a hotel. 2008 changed the owner of the castle. In 2009 was begun to renovate the castle in coordination with the Federal Monuments Office from scratch and revitalize. Castle and park should be restored to the original state. The lock is then used for private purposes, parts of the castle garden but are to be made ​​temporarily available to the public.
