Drew Gress

Drew Gress ( born November 20, 1959 in Trenton / New Jersey) is an American bassist of the avant-garde jazz.

Gress was announced in mid -1980s in the New York jazz scene. With Phil Haynes, Ellery Eskelin and Paul Smoker, he founded the quartet joint venture, which brought out three albums between 1987 and 1994 by Enja. He leads his own quartet Jagged Sky, with whom he recorded his first album released in 1998 as a bandleader (including with Gerry Hemingway ).

In addition, Gress formed in the late 1990s with Tim Berne and Tom Rainey Trio paraphrase, with whom he recorded two albums. He also worked with Erik Friedlander's Chimera group, the Fred Hersch Trio, the Don Byron Quartet and the Dave Douglas String Group and as a sideman, among others with Uri Caine, Gerald Cleaver, Ravi Coltrane, Marc Copland, Fred Hersch, John Hollenbeck & The Claudia Quintet, Tony Malaby, Mat Maneri Gebhard Ullmann and.

Gress toured Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America and was Composer in Residence at the University of Colorado and at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
