DRG Class 84

The Series 84 was a unit freight tank locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

History

A total of twelve vehicles were put into service by the Reichsbahn 1935-1937. The machines bore the operation numbers 84001-012. They were used on the railway between Müglitztal Heidenau and Altenberg in the Erzgebirge, for which they were due to the tight curve radii designed. They were manufactured by the company Schwartzkopff ( BMAG ) and Orenstein & Koppel. A special feature was the equipment with Schwartzkopff Eckhardt steering racks.

At the end of the Second World War, much of the locomotives in an air raid on the depot Dresden- Friedrichstadt was damaged in April 1945, which is why many locomotives had to be turned off.

The vehicles came after the Second World War to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR. From the late 1940s they were stationed for the bismuth Erzverkehr in the Western Erzgebirge. Until their retirement in the late 1960s they were mainly due to the winding route Schwarzenberg Johann George Town for use. Between 1966 and 1968 the locomotives of Class 84 were decommissioned and scrapped.

From the Series 84 no locomotive remained preserved in museums.
