DRG Class 99.22

The series is a series of narrow 99.22 unit steam locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn for 1000 mm gauge.

History

The locomotives of the series 99.22 to replace older Prussian locomotives in particular in the field of railway administration Erfurt, but also Bavarian, Baden and Württemberg routes. Built were ultimately only three locomotives that you started on the narrow gauge railway located in Thuringia ice rink Schönbrunn. The three built machines of the series received the Reichsbahn operating numbers 99221-99 223

The locomotives 99 221 and 99 223 were made in 1944 during the Second World War in Norway and came to the electrically operated Thamshavnbanen actually used. When the electrical equipment could be included on the route Thamshavn - Løkken Verk back in full after the Second World War, the two locomotives were redundant and were scrapped by 1953.

Locomotive 99 222, however, remained on their original route Thuringia in use until 1966. As part of the closure of the route they came into the resin. Today it belongs to the operational fleet of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways (HSB ). With the introduction of the computerized numbers 1970, the aircraft received the company number 99 7222, they officially received today, as the HSB holds 1970 at the DR numbering plan. Despite damage in a collision with another locomotive on August 21, 1994 the accident at Thumkuhlental the locomotive was reprocessed. As the locomotive short time later stayed in the repair shop Meiningen, the locomotive the original Knorr- Oberflächenvorwärmer got back at this work-up.

Based on the Einheitslokentwurfs the new locomotives of the series 99.23 in Babelsberg built from 1953. Distinct differences in the new locomotives compared to the Einheitsloks are very closed cab doors and welded sheet metal frame.

Technical characteristics and performance

The strongest in its time German narrow gauge locomotives were like most standard locomotives equipped with a bar frames ( cheeks thickness: 60 mm).

The drive is formed from five Kuppelradsätzen and one each forward or trailing wheelset is designed with four- point support, the suspension of the three front and four rear wheelsets were connected with this balancing levers. The wheel sets were led out as Bisselgestelle.

A special feature during the period of use on the track ice rink Schönbrunn was the automatic central buffer coupling of the type Janney. After the reaction for Harzquerbahn the 99 222 was converted to the customary there Balancierhebelkupplung. With the cutouts on the frame end plates of this conversion is still clearly visible.

The riveted boiler corresponded to changes in the smoke chamber and the domes of the boiler of the normal- range 81 to boiler feed you built a steam jet pump and a piston feed pump with Abdampfvorwärmer type Knorr ( Oberflächenvorwärmer ) to; In 1973, the locomotive preserved then instead of the Knorr- preheater a mixer preheater installed. This was replaced by a Oberflächenvorwärmer again in 1999.

The two-cylinder steam engine with simple steam expansion was original drive on the third Kuppelradsatz. The Heusinger control was in the interest equally good vapor distribution in forward or reverse travel Kuhnian loops. The originally grown angle valve pressure compensators have been replaced with locomotive 99 221 1950 to pressure balancing spool on the design Trofimoff.

The locomotives of the class were in the plane a Wagenzugmasse of around 1000-1100 t move at 40 km / hr. On Slopes of ten parts per thousand, they managed with the same speed in curves with only 60 meters radius even 145 t, on slopes of 25 per thousand in radii of curvature of 60 m also at least 195 t with even 20 km / h
