Drnovice (Zlín District)

Drnovice ( German Drnowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers north-west of Valašské Klobouky in Moravian Wallachia and belongs to Okres Zlín.

Geography

Drnovice is located in the Valley of the Vlára in the Vizovice mountains. To the north of the Klášťov ( 753 m), Svéradov ( 737 m) and the Hurka rise ( 634 m ) in the north- east, the Bařinka (716 m) and Vrátnice (680 m ) and in the southeastern Humenec (510 m). To the east close to the foothills of the Javorník Mountains.

Neighboring towns are Ploština, Pozděchov, Osičí and Sochorák in the north, Váša, Juric and Lačnov in the northeast, Tichov in the east, Díly, Smolina and Mirošov the southeast, Vlachova Lhota in the south, Polem and Vrchy the southwest, Vysoke Pole to the west and Klementina in northwest.

History

Drnowicze was first mentioned in 1261 in the founding document of the monastery Smilheim as monastic possession. To the owners of the village belonged after the sinking of the monastery, inter alia, the Lords of Cimburk, Kuna of Kunštát, Wenzel of Boskovic and Adam of Lomnice. 1564 sparked Zdeněk Říčanský Kavka Říčany Drnovice of the Vizovice goods and opened it his rule to Brumov.

After the replacement of patrimonial Drnovice in 1850 into an independent municipality. From 1867 to 1948, the town belonged to the district of Hungarian bread, and from 1949 to Okres Valašské Klobouky. The local government reform of 1960, the place came to Okres Zlín.

On April 19, 1945, in the northern Pasekarensiedlung Ploština a war crime occurred. An SS command lit the place where partisans had found shelter, and drove the inhabitants back into the burning houses. In this case, 24 people, including nine residents died from Drnovice in the flames.
