Life and work

Helene was the second child and only daughter of Duke George of Mecklenburg [- Strelitz ] (1824-1876) and his wife, Grand Duchess Catherine of Russia (1827-1894), daughter of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich Romanov Tsar Paul I and granddaughter her brothers were George Alexander and Carl Michael.

On December 13, 1891, she married at Castle Remplin Prince Albert of Saxe -Altenburg, the 14 years old only son of Edward of Saxe- Altenburg.
