Legends

After a prediction of Guru Rinpoche Jokang the Temple, which houses one of the most sacred Buddha images of Tibet, the Jowo Shakyamuni, was threatened at the time by a flood and only the Karmapa should be in a position to stop this tide. For this reason, he was asked by the then authorities of Lhasa to come. But as he was indispensable, especially in Tsurphu, he sent a letter, by calling upon the blessing Avalokitesvaras. As the 13th Karmapa was later able to visit the temple, he offered the Jowo Shakyamuni a white Khata, and the arms of the statue are said to have changed their position to accept the gift. They have remained to this day in this position.

As Düdul Dorje was once asked to dedicate a distant monastery, he should have remained in Tshurphu and have thrown blessing grains at the right moment of the consecration ceremony in the air. They are there to have fallen from heaven, even though the ceremony has taken place hundreds of kilometers away.

As Düdul Dorje died was the 9th Tai Situpa Pema Nyinche Wangpo ( 1774-1853 ) main lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu.
