Dutch Swing College Band

The Dutch Swing College Band is a Dutch band of traditional jazz.

History

The band was on 5 May 1945 ( which is considered in the Netherlands as Liberation Day and National Day) founded as an amateur Combo, in the first mainly played students. The first band consisted of Peter Schilperoort ( clarinet), Frans Vink ( piano ), Henny Good wine (double bass) and Tonny Nüsser (drums). The band, which expanded octet, has played an important pioneering role in the postwar years and inspired many young people for the costs incurred in North America and suppressed during the Nazi rule in Europe jazz styles such as Dixieland and swing.

Many sizes from the jazz world were inspired by the Dutch Swing College Band, which changed, accompany, for example, Bud Freeman turned professional in 1960, Sidney Bechet, Joe Venuti and Teddy Wilson. From 1967 Huub Janssen took over for 25 years, the drums. The Dutch Swing College Band has developed into a world-renowned jazz ensemble that has played on all five continents. The most striking feature of the band is from the beginning always a separate, clearly identifiable style. This was ensured by the fact that the octet own interpretations, arrangements or compositions played, instead of copying recordings American musician. The musicians have managed to captivate their audience in the first place with interesting jazz interpretations; the band has forgone the inclusion of conventional show elements.

There are numerous recordings of the group on almost all types of phonograms. The band also appeared numerous times on television and in film productions. According to Frans Vink, Jr. (1945-1946), Joop Schrier (1955-1960) and Peter Schilperoort (1946-1955 and 1960-1990), the lead for the band now at Bob Kaper.
