E. G. Marshall

EG Marshall ( born June 18, 1914, Everett Eugene grunts in Owatonna, Minnesota; † August 24, 1998 in Bedford, New York ) was an American actor.

Life and career

EG Marshall was ( call it 1910, some sources ) in 1914 as Everett Eugene Grunz born. He was the son of Hazel Irene (1892-1975) and Charles G. Groff ( 1882-1959 ). Some of Marshall's ancestors were German. He later studied at Carleton College and the University of Minnesota.

Marshall worked in all representational areas, from theater to film to television and radio. For decades, he appeared regularly on Broadway in New York and played in the original cast of Arthur Miller's play The Crucible. On television, Marshall was seen from 1959 in numerous productions and performed in the course of his career in numerous well-known television series. From 1961 to 1965 he played the lead role in the legal drama Preston & Preston, for which he has been consecutively twice awarded an Emmy. In 1994 and 1995 he was in one of his last roles as Dr. Arthur Thurmond in Chicago Hope - A Streetcar Named hope to see.

In addition, Marshall was successful in Hollywood films since the mid-1950s. One of his most famous roles he played as a strictly analytical Juror # 4 in the classic film Twelve Angry Men with Henry Fonda. For many he is likely to be due to its role as a notoriously disgruntled father- known in the film National Lampoon's Christmas. For many years, Marshall also accompanied the CBS Radio Mystery Theater radio drama series as master of ceremonies and was together with 45 other actors founder of the Actors Studio.

Marshall was married three times and had seven children with his last wife until his death. He died of lung cancer in 1998 and was buried in the Middle Patent Rural Cemetery in North Castle, New York. Until recently, he had worked as an actor.
