Eadhæd

Eadhæd (also Eadheath, Eadhaedus, Eadhaed or Eadhed ) was 678-679 an early medieval Bishop of Lindsey and since 680 Bishop of Ripon.

Life

Eadhæd priest when he was at the request of King Oswiu Chad accompanied in the year 664 by Wessex, where it was consecrated as Bishop of York. After the deposition of Bishop Wilfrid of York whose diocese was shared by Archbishop Theodore of Canterbury: Bosa was 678 in York by Theodore Bishop of Deira, based in York, Eata bishop of Bernicia with seats in Hagustald ( Hexham ) and Lindisfarne ( Monastery ) and Eadhæd the first bishop ordained by Lindsey In 679 Æthelred of Mercia conquered the Kingdom of Lindsey. Eadhæd had to leave Lindsey and 680 was the only Bishop of Ripon. Probably the Diocese of Ripon was specially created for Eadhæd. He signed a document with 685 Eadhæd Lindissi episcopus ( " Eadhæd, Bishop of Lindsey "). The document is, however, regarded as a later copy or fake.
