Eastern European Hockey League

The East European Hockey League was a multinational Hockey League, the clubs from the territory of the former Soviet Union belonged. The League existed between 1995 and 2004, but was in 2004, due to the recording of the top clubs from Kiev, Riga and Liepaja, dissolved in the Belarusian league.

History

The league was founded in 1995 by teams from the former Soviet republics of Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. In the years since its inception, the number of participating teams increased steadily and it joined other countries. Thus the possibility of the top clubs of the individual states was offered to play at a higher level than in their home leagues against the best clubs between the Baltic and Black Seas. The rush to participate in the EEHL was so great that the league had to be divided into a EEHL A and a second-rate EEHL B 1998 after three years.

2004 decided the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation to open the top division of the country for clubs in other countries. The top clubs from Kiev and Latvia changed then in the Belarusian Extraliga, this meant the end of EEHL.

Results

1995/96 season

In the first season of EEHL first a double round all participating teams was played. After that, the teams identified in the squares from 1 to 4 the champion of the league, the rest of the team played a so-called consolation round, each in a double round.

Season 1996/97

The mode has been changed for the 1996/97 season by the masters round and consolation round were replaced by play-offs. The preliminary round was still completed in a double round in the play-offs was the best of three mode (quarter, semi-finals ) and Best of five ( final, the third place play ). The EEHL also got appreciation by Olimpia Sosnowiec Poland and Tiwali Minsk, while the team of Belstal Zhlobin withdrew.

Playoffs

Since the Polish team Olimpia Sosnowiec withdrew before the playoffs, the Lithuanian representatives SC Energia could participate in the playoffs. Master of the 1996/97 season was the Latvian Club Juniors Riga.

Season 1997/98

The EEHL returned for the 1997/98 season back to the old mode back and first played a double round with two home and away games against each opponent out. This was followed by a Master and a consolation round with entrainment of the points from the previous round.

1998/99 season

The EEHL led to the 1998/99 season a new mode that initially provided for a double round with two home and away games against each opponent. This was followed by a Master and a playoff qualifying round, were added to the other teams in the EEHL. The teams ranked one to five received for the Masters Round Bonus points according to their placement. The top two teams in the Master Round qualified directly for the play-off semi-final, while the three other participants in the Master round and the winner of the qualifying round in the quarterfinals of the other two participants playing off in the semi-finals.

1999/2000 season

For the 1999/2000 season, the mode has been changed again: In addition to EEHL A second-class EEHL B was created, were included in the five teams. However, only the teams in the EEHL A took part in the second round and the playoffs.

After a double round with two home and away games against each opponent followed a split second group phase for these teams, with the placement ( even or odd ) of the membership of Group A or B decided.

Season 2000/ 01

For the 2000/01 season the league returned to their original configuration. After a double round with two home and away games against each opponent followed for the first eight teams in the playoffs table. The playoffs were played in best of three ( quarterfinals ) and Best of Five ( semi - final and final ) mode. Master of the 2000/01 season was the HK Berkut Kiev, the 2000 defeated the newly founded Latvian club HK Riga in the final series 3-0.

Season 2001/ 02

For the 2000/ 01 season of the EEHL mode was changed again: In addition to a second-rate EEHL EEHL A B again was created, were included in the x teams. However, only the teams in the EEHL A participated in the playoffs. The winner of the B group played a Relegation against the eight runners in group A, while the crew descended directly in the B group at number nine of the A group.

After a double round with two home and away games against each opponent, the first seven teams in the A- group were directly qualified for the quarter-finals Palyoff. The winner of the relegation qualified as the eighth team for the quarter-finals. In addition to the changes in the grouping and the three- point rule and an extension has been introduced so that both teams received a point in a draw within regular time.
