Échavanne

Échavanne is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Échavanne situated at an altitude of 364 m above sea level, about eleven kilometers west of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the southern foothills of the Vosges, in a basin of Lizaine, the Ruisseau des Noriandes and on the eastern edge of the Chérimont.

The area of ​​3.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern Vosges foothills. The main part of the area is occupied by a wide valley, which is on average 360 m. It is crossed from north to south of the Lizaine, which forms the eastern boundary of the municipality and provides for drainage to Allan. The northern boundary marked her right tributary of the Ruisseau Noriandes. In hollows and valleys there are several ponds that were once created for fish farming. To the west, the municipality's area extends to the wooded foothills of the Chérimont on which 444 m is the highest point reached by Échavanne. These surveys are part of the hill country, which forms the southwestern continuation of the Vosges and is built around Échavanne partly out of red sandstone, partly of Permian strata.

Neighboring communities of Échavanne are Champagney in the north, Frahier -et- Chatebier the east and Chenebier the south and west.

History

The territory of Échavanne was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times, of which the 1835 discovered the remains of a villa testify. First mentioned is the place under the Latinized name Cavennacum. In the Middle Ages Échavanne belonged to the Counts of Montbéliard, assistant to place the rule in 1346 Héricourt. Upon incidence of the Guises ( 1587 ) and during the Thirty Years' War ( 1636) Échevanne was looted and burned. In 1748 the village came contractually definitively to the French crown. Since 2003 Échavanne is a member of the nine- villages municipal association Communauté de communes de Rahin et Chérimont. Échavanne does not have its own church; it belongs to the Catholic parish Frahier and the Reformed parish Chenebier.

Population

With 201 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Échavanne to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 184 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Échavanne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village.
