Eddy Louiss

Eddy Louiss ( born 2 May 1941 in Paris as Edouard Louise ) is a French jazz pianist and organist. With a keen sense he can hold in his organ playing rhythmic suspense even over long note values ​​of time.

Life and work

Louiss comes from a musical family: his mother, a pianist, introduced him to classical music, his father, a trumpet player from Martinique, introduced him to the music of the Caribbean and jazz. He learned from his parents, the trumpet and piano and played as a teenager in his father's band, then in a teenage band. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and played in the 1960s by the way in various Parisian jazz clubs; as a singer, he was (next to Mimi Perrin, Roger Guérin, Ward Swingle, Christiane Legrand ) to 1963 member of the group Double Six, the first time he accompanied on a tour of Canada on the organ.

Mid-1960s, Louis's as an organist with Johnny Griffin, Art Taylor, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz came on and also worked as a studio musician. In the late 1960s he was one next to the Barney Kessel Trio Kenny Clarke. In 1970 he gave concerts in Japan with Albert Mangelsdorff and John Surman. Prizes and awards
