Edgar Brenchley

Edgar " Chirp " Brenchley ( born February 12, 1910 in Sittingbourne, Kent, England; † 1975 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada ) was a British ice hockey player and coach, who in 1936 with his compatriot Olympic champion among others.

Career

Edgar Brenchley emigrated as a child with his family in the Canadian Niagara Falls, Ontario, where he. His career as a hockey player in the 1934/35 season with the Hershey B'ars of the Eastern Hockey League ( EHL ) Then he returned to Britain, where he played from 1935 to 1937 for the Richmond Hawks and the Harringay Greyhounds in the English National League. After two years break Brenchley moved in 1939 to the Atlantic City Sea Gulls from the EHL, which he left after only one year. Only after the end of the Second World War, the attacker was back in professional hockey on the ice. From 1945 up to end of his career in 1956 playing the Briton for the Washington Lions, AC New York, Atlantic City Sea Gulls, Johnstown Jets and Philadelphia Ramblers in the EHL and the Washington Lions in the American Hockey League, the New York Rovers in the Quebec Senior Hockey League and the Johnstown Jets in the International Hockey League.

After the end of his career as a player Brenchley took over from 1955 to 1958 the coach of his former club Philadelphia Ramblers of the Eastern Hockey League. He then worked from 1961 to 1963 and from 1964 to 1966 for one season with the Sudbury Wolves of the Eastern Professional Hockey League, the Port Huron Flags of the International Hockey League and the St. Catharines Black Hawks of the Ontario Hockey Association.

Because of his service to the British Ice Hockey Brenchley was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993 as member of the national team in 1936. Previously, he had been taken in the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame in 1990.

Internationally

For UK Brenchley took part in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and the World Cup 1937.
