Edgars Masaļskis

Edgars Masaļskis ( born March 31, 1980 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian professional ice hockey goaltender, who was recently at HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Edgars Masaļskis began his career as a hockey goalie in his Latvian homeland, where until 1998 he was first active from 1996 for HK and HK Riga Riga Lido Nafta. Then he stood four years at HK Liepaja Metalurgs under contract by which he was in 2000 and 2002 respectively Latvian champion. In the season 2002/ 03 Masaļskis played for the first time abroad, where he played for HK Sibir Novosibirsk in the Russian Super League, as Morrum GoIS from the Swedish Allsvenskan. In addition, the sandal was again in his home at HK Liepaja Metalurgs under contract. In the 2003 /04 season was Masaļskis with HK Riga 2000 for the third time in his career Latvian champion.

This was followed by a tumultuous season in which stood the Latvian in the Czech Republic for HC Energie Karlovy Vary HC Dukla Jihlava and IHC Pisek on the ice. After a year at Neftjanik Almetyevsk in the second Russian Hockey League, it drew the goalkeeper 2006/ 07 to Belarus, where he was active for the HK and HK Junost Minsk Minsk. In addition Masaļskis played 16 times in the hockey league for the wolves Freiburg.

After another season in the Belarusian Extraliga at Metallurg Zhlobin 2008 he moved to Dinamo Riga from the newly formed KHL. In September 2008 he was injured in a robbery, and later suspended by his club. Therefore Masaļskis changed in January 2009 to the financially strapped foxes Duisburg in the German Hockey League. After the dissolution of the Duisburg clubs, he returned to Dinamo Riga.

In June 2010 Masaļskis moved within the KHL to HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk.

Internationally

For Latvia Edgars Masaļskis participated in the Junior B World Championships in 1999 and 2000, as well as the A World Championships from 2003 to 2008 in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Latvia at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and Torino 2006.
