Egon Seefehlner

Egon Seefehlner ( born June 3, 1912 in Vienna, † September 25, 1997 ) was an Austrian jurist, editor and director.

Life and work

Egon Seefehlner studied at the Vienna Consular Academy and joined it to a study of law.

From 1938 to 1943 he worked in the Economic Policy Department of the AEG in Berlin. Then he returned to Vienna and worked from 1945 to 1948 as editor of the cultural magazine The tower before it was 1946-1961 Secretary General of the Vienna Konzerthaus and additionally 1954-1961 Deputy director of the opera of the Vienna State Opera. As Secretary General of the Vienna Konzerthaus Society founded Seefehlner 1949 Musical Youth of Austria. Seefehlner officiated from 1945 to 1963 also as a cultural adviser in the Federal party leaders of the People's Party and at the same time as general secretary of the co-founders of the Austrian Cultural Association.

1961 Seefehlner went to Berlin again and acted first as a deputy and from 1972 to 1976 as general director of the Deutsche Oper. Then he was from 1976-1982 and 1984-1986 director of the Vienna State Opera.

His honorary dedicated tomb is located on the Neustift Cemetery (Group N, number 1, number 44).
