Heinrich Reif-Gintl

Heinrich Reif- Gintl ( born October 7, 1900 in Vienna, † July 13, 1974 ) was an Austrian director and director of the Vienna State Opera 1968 to 1972.

Life

Heinrich Reif- Gintl visited the Vasa High School, where he Josef Krips had three years as a fellow in Vienna. After high school he studied at the University of Vienna Law, in addition he also visited musicological lectures and learned to play the violin and French horn playing.

After his Doctorate in Law. In 1923, he joined the Federal Theater Management. From 1925 he worked at the Vienna State Opera under the direction of Franz Schalk. On July 1, 1927, he was artistic auxiliary secretary, from 1 September 1937, executive secretary. After the "Anschluss " of Austria he was removed because of his Jewish ancestry in September 1938 from his post.

After the Second World War was frost Gintl deputy director alongside Franz Salmhofer that played during the reconstruction at the Theater an der Wien. In 1955 he was appointed director of the theater operating theater department of the Federal government. On 1 January 1965, ordered him next to Egon Hilbert, in turn, Assistant Director of the State Opera, where he then succeeded as Director from January 19, 1968. The negotiations with other candidates, such as Rolf Liebermann and Rudolf Bing were inconclusive.

In his last until August 31, 1972 term of office, he secured the State Opera after the turbulent years under Herbert von Karajan and his predecessor a quieter time, probably due to incipient austerity measures and the reduction of financial burdens. Nevertheless, he gave the audience the 100-year existence of the house on the Ring 1969 an impressive showcase of the ensemble: in 60 days he set 47 different operas and ballets 5 on the game board. Another highlight of his era was the premiere of Einem's opera The Visit of the Old Lady on May 23, 1971.

After the expiration of his contract frost Gintl changed as administrative director at the Burgtheater.

His grave is located in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 2, Series 21, No. 33).
