Ehrhardt Post

Alfred M. Ehrhardt Post ( born September 23, 1881 in Cottbus, † August 1, 1947 in Berlin) was a German chess master and functionary.

Chess career

Post by profession, public prosecutor, scored his first major tournament success in Berlin in 1907, when he finished 2nd place behind Richard Teichmann, but is placed in front of Rudolf Spielmann, Paul Saladin Leonhardt, David Przepiorka and others. In 1910 he won through a competition win ( 6 -3 = 3 ) against the previous title holder Wilhelm Cohn the championship of Berlin. In 1921 he won at the 21st Congress of the German Chess Federation, which was tantamount to the German Championships, before Friedrich Sämisch, Willi Schlage and others. He repeated a year later in Oeynhausen this success, number 2 ranked Carl Carls. 1923 at the Congress in Frankfurt he shared with Heinrich Wagner 2nd place behind Ernst Grünfeld.

Activities as chess functionary

Already since 1911, was a post president of the Berlin Chess Club. As an official, he became particularly prominent by its German national setting. So he turned to the Congress of the German Chess Federation in 1914 in Mannheim against the establishment of an international chess organization and supported a proposal to limit the number of foreign players in the championship tournaments. At the Congress in Berlin in 1920 he was defeated at the election of the Chairman of the DSB clearly against Walter Robinow. From his position as second chairman post came back to the end of 1922 further quarrels. When the DSB 1933 rose forcibly in the Greater German Chess Federation Post was Deputy Federal conductor Otto Zander and was involved in the DC circuit of chess organizations and the exclusion of Jewish members. In 1939 he was appointed under federal director Franz Moraller Managing and could direct the activities of the GSB in the following years with almost unlimited abundance of power, although he always second man in the federation hierarchy remains formally on record and in this function.

His death in 1947 was mentioned briefly in the chess press.

Study Composer

Between 1934 and 1939, published post some chess studies, most of them in the German Chess leaves. However, they had the character of practical chess endgames.
