Eifionydd

Part of the country

Eifionydd [ əiviɔnɨð ] is a region in north Wales and is now in Gwynedd. It is the south-eastern part of the Llŷn Peninsula as far as Pwllheli and the Afon Erch River at Abererch as a border in the west to Llŷn.

General

Eifionydd was a medieval cantref, it coincided approximately with the Kingdom Dunoding. The name derives from Eifion, the son of King Dunods and grandchildren Cunedda Wledigs, the founder of the royal dynasty of Gwynedd, ago. The center was Criccieth, formerly the royal residence was probably in Dolbenmaen. Although Eifionydd today has no meaning as a political administrative unit more, but the name is still common for this region. Next Abererch, Usk and Llanystumdwy It includes nine other towns.

The Welsh poet Robert Williams Parry describes in his poem Eifionydd the contrast between the rural idyll and urban gear.
