Eiksundtunnel

The Eiksundtunnel is an undersea tunnel in Norway and connects as part of Eiksundverbindung ( Eiksundsambandet ) the island municipalities Hareid, Ulstein, sands and Herøy with the mainland in Fylke Møre og Romsdal during the Riksvei 653

The tunnel is 7765 m long and with a depth of 287 m the currently deepest road tunnel in the world. The largest gradient in the tunnel is 9.6%.

The Eiksundsambandet is next to the Eiksundtunnel also from the Eiksundbrua (405 m), the Helge Horn Tunnel ( 1160 m ) and the Morkaåstunnel (630 m)

For the public, the Eiksundtunnel on 17 February 2008 was opened and released on 23 February 2008 for the normal vehicle traffic. This means that the ferry Eiksund Rjåneset is set to be replaced by Eiksundtunnel.

The toll for the Eiksundsambandet is for a car to 3.5 tons 76 crowns (2012 ), which corresponds to about 10 EUR ( September 2012 ). The vehicle registration number are recorded when entering the tunnel with cameras, so that the vehicle owner can be determined, then the toll will be charged. There is also the option to pay the toll within three days at certain gas stations in the area. This detection system allows to drive through the Eiksundsambandes without stopping.

Because of the good capacity utilization, the construction costs are already covered from the summer of 2014 through the toll revenue and Eiksundsamband thus be to drive toll-free.

On 28 June 2009, a car accident occurred in the tunnel with five dead.
