Elfriede Gerstl

Elfriede Gerstl ( born June 16, 1932 in Vienna, † April 9, 2009 ibid ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

Elfriede Gerstl survived as a Jewish child, the period of National Socialism in Vienna in various hiding places. From 1945 Gerstl attended a Matura school, graduating in 1951 with the Matura. Then (up to 1960) she studied at the Vienna University of Medicine and Psychology ( no degree). In 1960 she married, it was her daughter Judith Bellina born.

In 1955 she began to publish in literary magazines. She wrote poems, essays and short prose pieces and was active in the Vienna group. Especially the theme of gender roles, the committed feminist had prescribed. In 1963 she participated in the Literary Colloquium Berlin ( LCB) part. From 1963 to 1971 she held repeatedly for a longer time in Berlin.

From 1972 she lived exclusively in Vienna and one of the founding members of Graz Writers Assembly ( CLA), from which they made ​​and in 1995 entered 1992. She has organized numerous literary events, for example, in the Old Forge and the Literature House Vienna, and exercised a lively journalistic activity, such as the butterfly.

Elfriede Gerstl was buried in an honorary grave dedicated to Vienna's Central Cemetery.
