Elizabeth Smith (Scottish politician)

Elizabeth Smith, also briefly Liz Smith ( born February 27, 1960) is a Scottish politician and member of the Conservative Party.

Smith attended George Watson 's College in Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh. Between 1983 and 1997 she worked as a teacher of economics at George Watson 's College. Then it was adviser to the politician Malcolm Rifkind.

In the general election, 1997, 2001 and 2005, Smith ran as candidate of the Conservative Party for the constituencies Ochil and South Perthshire, Perth or Edinburgh South, however, was able to win a mandate in any case. The election in 2001, she lost with a gap of only 48 votes against Annabelle Ewing from the SNP. In 2007, Smith ran for the first time at the Scottish Parliament elections for the constituency of Perth, but lost to the candidate of the SNP, Roseanna Cunningham. On the basis of the election result Smith moved but as one of three candidates of the Conservative Party next to Ted Brocklebank and Murdo Fraser on the regional list of polling Region Mid Scotland and Fife first time in the Scottish Parliament. Since the constituency of Perth was dissolved in the wake of the election district reform in 2011, Smith was a candidate for the 2011 parliamentary elections for the constituency Perthshire South and Kinross -shire, were in what part of the former constituency of Perth risen. However, it was defeated again Roseanna Cunningham, but their seat secured a second time on the regional list in the Parliament.
