Erasmus University Rotterdam

The Erasmus University Rotterdam ( Dutch: Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam) ( EUR ) is a Dutch University in Rotterdam, named after the philosopher Erasmus of Rotterdam. The university has seven faculties and two institutes and focuses on four areas of expertise:

  • Health - Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences / Erasmus MC and institute of Health Policy & Management ( BIPM )
  • Assets - Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) and Rotterdam School of Management (RSM )
  • Governance - Erasmus School of Law and International Institute of Social Sciences
  • Culture - Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Philosophy

Erasmus MC is the largest and one of the major academic medical centers in the Netherlands, whereas the economic and business schools of the EUR, the Erasmus School of Economics and the Rotterdam School of Management, the leader in Europe and the world. The Erasmus School of Law is one of the largest law schools in the Netherlands.

History

The origins of the Erasmus University Rotterdam go to the Netherlands School of Commerce ( Nederlandse trade Hoogeschool; NHH ) back, which was founded in 1913 on a private initiative of the commercial community towards Rotterdam. The official recognition of trade commerce and economics as an academic discipline led in 1939 to a name change: NHH became the Netherlands School of Economics ( Nederlandse Economische Hogeschool; NEH ). Had The increasing complexity of Dutch society in the 1960s, the arrival of new faculties - law and social sciences - the result, which was followed by other faculties of philosophy, history, art and economics in the 1970s and 1980s.

At the same time a full-fledged medical degree program in Rotterdam tried the Foundation for Higher Clinical Education since 1950 to establish. These efforts revealed that in 1966 the government established the Medical Faculty Rotterdam and settled in the Dijkzigt Hospital. Together with the Sophia Children's Hospital and the Daniel den Hoed Clinic formed these the University Hospital Rotterdam, which bears the name Erasmus MC since January 1, 2003.

In 1973, the Medical Faculty of Rotterdam and the Netherlands School of Economics merged to become Erasmus University Rotterdam, named after the Dutch humanist and theologian Desiderius Erasmus, who lived in Rotterdam in the 15th century. Finally, in 2009, the International Institute of Social Sciences, an internationally renowned in the field of development studies and international cooperation Institute, part of the Erasmus University.

Erasmus School of Economics

The Erasmus School of Economics (ESE ) is the economic faculty of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and earned its excellent reputation thanks to the work of the world-renowned economist and Nobel Prize winner there employed, Jan Tinbergen. She is a Dean - led and consists of the Department of Economics, the Department of Business Economics, the Department of Econometrics and the Department of Applied Economics, a research department, an education department and a faculty own management - currently Professor Philip Hans Franses. To research the department belong together with the economic faculties of the University of Amsterdam and the Free University of Amsterdam powered renowned Tinbergen Institute. and the Erasmus Research Institute of Management ( ERIM ).

The Erasmus School of Economics is home to over 4,500 students, has exchange agreements with 70 partner universities abroad, offers four bachelor's degree programs, twelve Master's programs and manages a budget of approximately 32 million euros.

The Rotterdam School of Management (RSM ) is the business school of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and goes back to a common start-up initiative, the EUR and the Technical University of Delft in 1969. The RSM is a dean - directed and is divided into eight academic departments - currently Steef van de Welde:

In research, the RSM is cooperating with the Erasmus School of Economics Erasmus Research Institute of Management ( ERIM ). At the level of education it offers a variety of undergraduate, MBA and general master programs, as well as programs for graduate students and professionals.
