Erica (Victoria)

Erica is a small town in the Australian state of Victoria on the road to Rawson in the Baw Baw Shire.

The area was at the beginning of the 20th century generally as Upper Moondarra known. The settlement Erica grew after the construction of the railway line from Moe to Valhalla, which ran through the area. At the site of the present station was opened in 1910 Erica a named Harris, but was renamed in 1914 after a mountain near in Erica. On 14 July 1910, the first post office was opened under the name of Upper Moondarra and 1914 also renamed Erica.

The settlement Erica lived mainly from forestry and agriculture, and was after the decline of Walhalla in the 1920s, the largest town on the railway line Moe - Walhalla. 1944, the route was Erica - Walhalla closed, with only occasional transport of goods to Platina station were still held. 1954 also included the line to Moe.

Today Erica still has connections with the timber industry and the processing of agricultural goods. In addition, the city serves as a stopover for tourists who want to visit the Thomson Dam, the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, Mount Baw Baw or Mt St Gwinear.

At the 2006 census, the population of Erica and his environment was found to be 247. The newer city Rawson is located about 5 km north.
