Espen Bjervig

Espen Bjervig (* June 30, 1972 ) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier.

Career

His first try at the Cross Country World Cup had Bjervig in February 1995 at the World Cup in Oslo. However, he finished only 53rd place out of 66 participants. In March 1997 he won tenth place in the sprint competition in Sunne first World Cup points. The breakthrough to the world class then succeeded in the 1998/99 season, when he was able to celebrate over 15 km classic in the Estonian Otepaeae over the same distance his only World Cup victory after a second place in the Italian Dobbiaco. At the end of the season, he finished seventh in the World Cup overall standings. In the ranking of the sprint race in fourth, he missed almost the podium. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein, he was classically aft over 10 kilometers. Together with Erling Jevne, Bjørn Dæhlie and Thomas Alsgaard he won the silver medal in the relay competition. In pursuit competition he reached the 14th place. The following year, he finished three times second place at World Cup competitions and therefore fought his way to eighth place in the overall World Cup standings. After he still has had some top ten results in season 2000/ 01, later succeeded him not to build on these achievements. His last international match played Bjervig the last relay competition of the season 2002/ 03 in Falun, where the Norwegian relay took fourth place.

Bjervig worked as sports director for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo.
