1998–99 FIS Cross-Country World Cup

The Cross Country World Cup 1998/99 began on 28 November 1998, Muonio and ended on 20 March 1999 in Oslo. The highlight of the season was the 1999 Nordic World Ski Championships from February 19 to 28 in Ramsau. The single was holding competitions were last counted as World Cup events.

The victory in the World Cup overall in the men went for the sixth time at Dæhlie Bjørn from Norway. Dæhlie is so far the only athlete who achieved a sixth victory. He moved so past Gunde Svan, who could win the overall title five times. As the season progresses Dæhlie won five victories and four other podiums. In his career, he was thus able to celebrate a total of 46 World Cup victories and is the most successful athlete who has participated in the World Cup competitions (November 2009). The second place went to Austrian Mikhail Botwinow who could clearly refer the Finn Mika Myllylä to third place. Botwinow secured the discipline rating of the long- distance competitions before Dæhlie and Myllylä. He is the first Austrian athlete who won a total score in the Cross Country World Cup. The sprint won - for the first time in his career - Bjørn Dæhlie, who ended his playing career after the season. This classification in second was his compatriot Tor Arne Hetland ahead of Sweden's Mathias Fredriksson.

While the season was clearly dominated in the men of Dæhlie, the firm was the overall winner at an early stage, the women's competition was not decided until the season finale. Before the final competition, the Norwegian Bente Martinsen totaled 71 points clear in the lead before the Italian Stefania Belmondo. While Belmondo, who had their strengths on the longer distances, came to meet the length of the final competition of 30 kilometers, revealed sprint specialists Martinsen renewed their weaknesses on the longer distances. Belmondo finished in second place behind Oslo Julija Tschepalowa and was therefore unable to secure 80 points. Martinsen, however, could only occupy the 22th place, which it points account increased by a further 9 counter. This meant that both ladies were able to record 768 points in the overall standings for at the end and was therefore chosen for the first time in the history of cross-country skiing World Cup victory in the standings due to the higher number of wins this season. Since Martinsen during the season won seven contests, while Belmondo was only successful twice, the large crystal for the first time in her career went to Martinsen. The third place went to the Russian Nina Gawriljuk. The victory in the sprint classification also went to Martinsen before the Czech Kateřina Neumannová and Kristina Šmigun. The Estin also won the scoring distance competitions from Belmondo and the Russian Larissa Lasutina.

The Nation's won before Norway Russia and Sweden. While the women's competition was won confidently from Russia to Norway also secured the victory in the men's.
