Mikhail Ivanov (cross-country skier)

Mikhail Petrovich Ivanov (Russian: Михаил Петрович Иванов; born November 20, 1977) is a Russian cross-country skiers.

Ivanov has been able to win two races in the World Cup. On 4 March 2000 he won in Lahti (Finland ) the mass start 30km through the classical technique and a year later in Falun (Sweden) the race over 15 km classic.

In 2001 he won at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti the bronze medal over 30 km classic.

His greatest achievement is winning the gold medal in the 50 km classic at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Ivanov was not until later appointed an Olympic champion after the command started for Spain Johann Mühlegg had to give up his gold medal after a positive doping test.

Currently Ivanov is far from his best form. After his Olympic victory, he failed to win more World Cup races. His best result in the 2005/2006 season was a 26th place in the pursuit race in Vernon ( Canada).
