Eton Manor

Eton Manor is a sports and leisure complex in London. It is located on Eastway in the district of Leyton (London Borough of Waltham Forest ), on the northern edge of the Olympic Park. The 27 acres ( almost eleven acres ) of grounds near the river Lea is part of the Lee Valley Regional Park.

Use

During the 2012 Olympic Eton Manor serves as a training center for water sports enthusiasts, with three 50 -meter pool for swimmers and smaller pools for synchronized swimmers and water polo players. During the 2012 Paralympics, the system is the venue of the wheelchair tennis tournaments. For this purpose, nine tennis courts were constructed until 2011. These are lined with temporary grandstands for 10,500 spectators, including 5,000 in the Show Court

After completion of the Paralympics Eton Manor should be able to continue to be used by sports clubs. The 5,000 spectators reduced Riverbank Arena, venue for the Olympic hockey tournament will find their final position here. The Hockey Association of England competed to host the world championships in 2014, with Eton Manor as a venue. The World Federation FIH Utrecht gave the preference, but promised that London could perform a FIH tournament in 2015 or 2016. The football club Leyton Orient in 2011 expressed his interest in the stadium at Eton Manor and entered with the future operator, the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, in contact.

History

The name Eton Manor is derived from Eton College, from the 1880s operation sports funding projects to raise the standard of living in East London. Founded in 1909, four former Eton pupil Eton Manor Boys the 'Club to provide sports pitches available. In 1913 they acquired the former Manor Farm in Hackney. In 1920 a former landfill site in Leyton was acquired in order to build more sports fields over there. The as The Wilderness ( the wilderness ) known sports center included facilities for football, rugby, cricket, tennis, table tennis, squash, badminton, bowling, boxing and athletics. 1967 presented the Club extent of its activities and the sports center from 2001 remained largely unused until it came to the attention of the organizers of the Olympic Games.
