European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas

The Association of European Transmission System Operators for Gas ( ENTSO -G short from English European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas ) is an association, have joined forces in the operators of transmission networks for natural gas in Europe. ENTSOG is based in Brussels.

History and tasks

ENTSO -G was established in 2009 as part of the 2007 agreed EU's third energy package for the liberalization and opening up of the electricity and gas markets in Europe. The corresponding sister association for grid operators is ENTSO -E.

The tasks of the ENTSO -G are partially defined in the EC Regulation No 715/2009 on conditions for access to the natural gas transmission networks. Derived from ENTSO -G shall be responsible for:

  • Standardization, allocation and management of network codes
  • Development of an EU-wide ten-year plan for the development of the gas network
  • Improving the flow of information from the TSO to market participants
  • Creation of common work means to coordinate the operation of the network

In addition, ENTSO -G works with the European Commission and to the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators ( ACER).

Members

ENTSO -G has 39 transmission system operators ( TSOs ) from 22 states as full members. There are also two associated partners and three observers from non-EU countries. (2012 )
