Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek

Eva Glawischnig - Piesczek (born Glawischnig ) ( born February 28, 1969 in Villach) is an Austrian politician. Since 1999 she has been Member of Parliament for the Green Party. From October 2006 to October 2008 she was third National President. Since 17 January 2009 she is national spokesperson of the Greens.

Professional career

After leaving school at the Bundesgymnasium Porcia in Spittal an der Drau (Carinthia ) Glawischnig studied law at the Karl- Franzens- University Graz and finished his studies in 1993 as Magistra. In 1999, she obtained a doctorate. Her dissertation at the Karl- Franzens- University in Graz, she dedicated the problem of border nuclear power plants and put this knowledge in an action against the controversial nuclear power plant Mochovce to enjoin the hazards caused by radioactive emissions also equally into action. Their lawsuit against the Slovenské Elektrárne a.s. (Slovak Power Plants AG) was dismissed in the second instance before the Regional Court for Civil Matters Vienna in July 2005.

From 1992 until its entry into Vienna's policy in 1996, she worked as a legal consultant for the environmental organization Global 2000, and later moved to the federal Green Party. From 2002 Glawischnig was deputy national spokesperson of the Greens under the party leader Alexander Van der Bellen, while club chairman Deputy to the Greens in the National Council. On 30 October 2006 she was elected the third National President.

On 3 October 2008 Alexander Van der Bellen was announced that he would resign as party leader of the Greens and Glawischnig was the designated new party leader. On 24 October, she was unanimously elected a new Executive Party leader and confirmed later in the Congress.

Family

Since June 2, 2005 Glawischnig is married to the Austrian television presenter and ATV sports journalist Volker Piesczek. On 4 June, the church wedding followed in seabed, on 15 May 2006 was the first son of the couple.
