Express Werke

The Express Werke AG, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz built 1884-1959 bicycles, motorcycles with Fafnir engines and automobiles. In the Holzgartenstraße 1 in Neumarkt, the first bicycle factory was built on the European mainland as Velociped Factory Neumarkt brothers Goldschmidt.

Between 1899 and 1905 cars were produced for the first time. Either made ​​a two- cylinder gasoline or an electric motor for propulsion. In 1909, the production was temporarily resumed; this time the vehicles received either a four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine of Fafnir. 1910, the production of automobiles was finally stopped. In the 1930s, small two-stroke mopeds were produced with 75 cc and 98 cc. From 1949 originated motorcycles with two-stroke engines by Sachs and ILO and with displacements up to 248 cm ³.

The decline of the German motorcycle industry at the end of the 1950s did not stop at Express and Express so fused the works in 1958, along with Victoria and DKW, the two-wheeler union headquartered in Nopitschstraße 70 in Nuremberg. Shortly thereafter, the production in Neumarkt in 1959 has been set.

The factory buildings in Neumarkt are preserved in parts today, today houses the Museum of Historical Maybach vehicles, issuing Express bicycles and motorcycles in addition to classic cars of the Maybach brand. Another collection of vehicles of Express works is located in the City Museum Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz.
