Fatezh

Fatesch (Russian Фатеж ) is a small town in Kursk Oblast (Russia) with 5404 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 45 km north of the Kursk Oblasthauptstadt on opening into the river SWAPA Ussoscha in the river system of the Dnieper.

Fatesch, the smallest city of Kursk Oblast, is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Fatesch was founded as a village in the 17th century.

On May 23, 1779 municipal law as an administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ) was given, after which the site became a local trading center for agricultural products until the 19th century.

During World War II Fatesch was occupied on 22 October 1941 by the German Wehrmacht and recaptured on 7 February 1943 by troops of the Bryansk Front Red Army during the advance on Maloarchangelsk and Sevsk.

Economy and infrastructure

In Fatesch there are small businesses in the food and textile industry.

The city lies on the M2 highway Moscow - Kursk - Belgorod- Ukrainian border and to Kharkiv (part of European route 95).
