FC Viktoria Plzeň

FC Viktoria Plzeň, FC Viktoria Plzeň as officially, is a Czech football club from the western Bohemian city of Pilsen. He plays in the 1st Czech league, the Gambrinus Liga. It was founded in 1911 as SK Viktoria Plzeň. In the season 2010/11 Victoria won for the first time in club history the Czech Championship. 2012/13 the second championship was won.

Club history

Viktoria Pilsen rose for the first time in 1931 in the highest Czechoslovak league, and remained there until 1938. Best finish was a third place in 1933. A renewed promotion to 1945, 1952 was followed by the descent, was again the third place in the season of 1947, the best result. Further appearances were Pilsen 1961/62 1962 /63 1967/68 to 1970 /71.

This season the club won the Czech Cup competition. In the final first leg at home, it was enough just to a draw against the B team of Sparta Prague. When, after a 3-3 draw in the return match in Prague and the shoot ended 5:5, the Škoda Plzeň Los certain winner. In the Czechoslovak Škoda Plzeň Cup final was indeed a chance against Spartak Trnava, but since the Slovaks had also become masters, Škoda Plzeň had the right to start as runners- Europe in the Cup Winners' Cup, and as the second division. In the 2009/10 season, the club qualified as a Czech Cup winners for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League 2010/11. There, however, it failed because of the Turkish team Beşiktaş Istanbul. 2010 took over the entrepreneur Tomáš Paclík the ownership of the club. In the season 2010/11 was Viktoria Plzen of Czech football champions for the first time.

On August 24, 2011, Plzen qualified for the first time in club history for participation in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League after defeating the three required qualification rounds FC Pjunik Yerevan, Rosenborg and FC Copenhagen. There, they met in the group stage against FC Barcelona, AC Milan and BATE Borisov. With a draw against BATE Borisov (1-1) and against AC Milan (2-2 by 0-2 residue ) and a win against BATE Borisov Plzen finished third place in the table of the H group and thus qualified for the round of the UEFA Europa League. 2012/13 as they played in qualifying for the Europa League. There were successively Metalurgi Rustavi (2nd qualifying round), Ruch Chorzów (3rd qualifying round) and Sporting Lokeren (play- off) eliminated. At the end of the qualification was for the actual competition. In the group stage the Pilsner met Académica Coimbra, Atlético Madrid, Hapoel Tel Aviv. The Czechs won the last match surprisingly win the group after surprisingly defending champion Atletico Madrid was defeated. Viktoria Pilsen was in season 2012/2013 for the second time Czech champion. At the end, distanced Sparta Prague by two points.
