Federal Ministry of Finance (Austria)

The Federal Ministry of Finance ( BMF short or Finance) is the supreme authority of the Austrian tax authorities and mainly responsible for federal finances, the financial sector in itself and part of the economic policy.

The BMF is responsible for:

  • Affairs of the financial constitution including financial compensation (distribution of income / expenses between federal, state and local )
  • Federal Finance Federal financial bill and the Federal Budget
  • Budgetary Affairs of the EU
  • Public taxes and contributions ( to the extent of the federal authorities managed)
  • The customs administration
  • Matters of procedure regarding taxes and contributions
  • Monetary, credit, savings, banking and stock exchanges.
  • Matters of capital and payments.
  • Affairs of the contract insurance supervision.
  • Punzierungswesen.
  • Affairs of the Postal Savings Bank.
  • Government loans, federal guarantees, debt
  • Management and exploitation of dilapidated / home relapsed / unclaimed assets (eg heritage loose decedent )
  • Share rights the federal government to companies and cooperatives

Seat

Since 1848, the city palace of Prince Eugene in the Himmelpfortgasse seat of the Treasury. In 2007, began with a general refurbishment of the building, which lasted until 2013. During this time, the ministry has moved into a temporary home in the rear Zollamtsstraße. Since May 2013 some departments are retranslated based in the now renovated location Himmelpfortgasse / John Alley. However, the Minister Maria Fekter and her cabinet were at the alternate location Rear Zollamtsstraße 2b, as State Secretary Andreas Schieder. The resulting vacant space in the rear Zollamtsstraße 2b are used by previously outsourced to other locations subordinate offices of the Ministry of Finance.
