Fernanda Montenegro

Fernanda Montenegro ( born October 16, 1929 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian actress.

Montenegro is considered the grand dame of Brazilian cinema and television. It was through the film Central Station by Walter Salles known worldwide, for which she won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1998. The film won the festival at the same time. In 1999 she received for this film a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a drama and was nominated as the first Brazilian actress Oscar. In 2007, she plays in the U.S. adaptation of the novel Love in the Time of Cholera.

She was 1954-2008 married to actor Fernando Torres. 4 September 2008 Fernando Torres died. Their common children Fernanda Torres and Claudio Torres are respectively actress director.
