Fernando Varela

Fernando Lopes dos Santos Varela (born 26 November 1987 in Cascais ) is a Cape verdisch - Portuguese football player. The center-back is since September 2013 in Steaua Bucharest under contract.

Career

In 2006, Varela came to the squad 's first team GD Estoril Praia, which played into the Segunda Liga. In order to gain match practice, he was loaned out in early 2007 for half a year at UD Rio Maior in the third-class Segunda Divisão. There he came regularly used and returned in the summer of 2007 back to Estoril. There he came in the wake frequently to the course. At the beginning of 2009, he left the club because he got the chance to CD Trofense in the Primeira Liga switch. With his new club, he was relegated to the end of the season in the Segunda Liga. National

On June 15, 2008 Varela played his first international match for the Cape Verdean national team in a World Cup qualifier against Mauritius. He came in the following years, rarely used, but was in the squad for the African Cup of Nations 2013., Where he came in all four games in his country for use. In the final group game against Angola, he scored in the 2-1 victory the deficit to 1-1 draw.
