FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup

The FIFA U -20 Women's World Cup (English: FIFA U -20 Women's World Cup), often known simply as U-20 Women's World Championship called, is the football competition between the best national teams for football players under 20. For the U-20 Junior Men's World Championship was a corresponding introduced in 1977. The age limit was from the beginning at 20 years, while the age limit in the first two tournaments still lay with the women at the age of 19.

History

The tournament takes place every two years and is organized by the world football governing body FIFA. The first time this tournament was held in Canada in 2002. The final took place in front of 30,000 spectators at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton between the host Canada and the USA. The U.S. won 1-0 through a golden goal from Lindsay Tarpley. Third of the tournament was the German national with a 1-1 ( 4-3 on penalties) against Brazil.

The second tournament was in 2004 in Thailand instead. The German women were this time world champions with a 2-0 victory against China. Third place went to the United States by a 3-0 win against Brazil. For the 2006 tournament in Russia, the age limit of the competition was increased to 20 years. Winners North Korea was a 5-0 victory over China. Defending champion Germany failed in the quarterfinals to the United States. In 2008, the tournament was held in Chile. Since 2010, the tournament - held a dress rehearsal in front of the Women's World Cup in the country of the World Cup host - analogous to the Confederations Cup for men. For Germany 2010 was the host and the home team won the final for his second world title after a commanding performance of the tournament with a 2-0 victory over the African surprise finalist Nigeria. Since 2015, Canada will host the World Cup, Canada also hosted the 2014 U -20 World Cup.

At the end of each U-20 Women's World Cup several awards will be awarded to the best players and the fairest team. Currently there are four different awards:

  • The Adidas Golden Glove for best goalkeeper
