Fishbone

Fishbone is a crossover band from California ( USA), founded in 1979 in Los Angeles.

Band History

Fishbone played at the beginning of a mixture of ska and funk, all the band members worked as a songwriter. This creative input of six musicians allowed Fishbone, is to quickly develop a name in the local scene with their personal, highly idiosyncratic style, and thanks to an absolutely crazy and wild live show.

It would take until 1985 that Fishbone published material in a phonogram. The " Fishbone EP" contained six songs that are today considered to be in the best material the band. In 1986 the musical and thematic continuation of the EP with the album " In Your Face". In 1988 Fishbone employed on the album " Truth and Soul" for the first time extensively with serious issues such as racism or fascism, also the band with many different styles began to experiment. 1989 Fishbone took the guitarist John Bigham as the seventh man and additional guitarist and songwriter in the lineup at.

1991 appeared " The Reality of My Surroundings ", which to this day most commercially successful album. The songs Everyday Sunshine and Sunless Saturday for the first time recorded successes in the charts and on MTV.

With "Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He 's the Center of the Universe " in 1993 Fishbone had reached their musical peak. The album began with crushing metal riffs and offered in other songs as perfectly played ska, funk, soul, reggae, hardcore punk, and even a system modeled on Gospel piece ( No Fear ). Despite the creative high point and the appearance of the band at the Lollapalooza festival was "Give a Monkey ... " not as big a success as its predecessor, so that Columbia Records the existing contract ended.

More low blows had to take the band with getting two members. Kendall Jones left the band in 1993, shortly after the release of "Give a Monkey ... " since the now very strictly religious set Jones could no longer agree with his faith his membership of Fishbone. All-rounder Chris Dowd left the band in late 1994 because he was no longer happy with her career. Dowd wanted to play anymore the old Fishbone sound, especially the ska and reggae, but this could not be reconciled with the more metal and punk - lastigerem way of the other band members.

From their record company let down, and after the loss of two important friends, musicians and songwriters, the five remaining members published in 1996 the extremely angry, rough and chaotic album " Chim Chim 's Badass Revenge". The plate was suffering rather lousy production and nonexistenter promotion by the new label. Many fans consider " CCBR " However, due to its incredible anger and energy nevertheless a masterpiece of the band.

" Chim Chim 's Badass Revenge" should be the last Fishbone album with John Bigham and "Fish". Guitarist Bigham went in 1997 to form their own band. Drummer "Fish" left the band after 19 years in 1998 out of frustration with the band's development, which always worked harder in his opinion, and more and gave more concerts, only to be viewed by less and as well as hardly paid. After a few hectic members were guitarist Spacey T - Jump and drummer John Steward, and John McKnight ( as a replacement for Chris Dowd ) the new men at Fishbone.

2000 got the band a contract with Hollywood Records label and took a Allstar album with several friends from the music scene, such as George Clinton, Gwen Stefani, John Frusciante and Chad Smith on. Also this (again, very laid back and positive sounding ) album, however, was not strongly promoted and not a great success.

In 2002 he released the album " Live at the Temple Bar and More", a live album, on the only new pieces were included. In early 2003 the band had re- insert heavy blows, as Spacey T and especially founding member and fan favorite Walter Kibby left the band.

After a short break returned Fishbone 2004. Angelo Moore, Norwood Fisher, John Stewart and John McKnight were left over from the last lineup. The new members of Fishbone were ex- Suicidal Tendencies - member Rocky George ( Guitar), Tori Ruffin (second guitar), "Pastor " Dre Holmes (trumpet, vocals) and Dre Gipson (keyboards). With the brand new lineup to Fishbone were once more on extensive tour for late 2005 or early 2006, new material has been announced.
