Fitchburg Longsjo Classic
The Fitchburg Longsjo Classic is a stage race which is held annually in the U.S. Fitchburg (Massachusetts ).
For the first time the race was in 1960 as a one-day race with the name Fitchburg Longsjo Memorial Race held to commemorate the 1958 fatally injured cyclist kind Longsjo, a native of Fitchburg. Since 1977, the race is also geared for women. Today, the race consists of four stages, is busy and is considered a high-class American cycling classic, in part because it is now the second oldest (after the Tour of Somerville, which has been around since 1940). 2011 the race had to be canceled due to a fire in downtown Fitchburg. For financial reasons, it would only again to be held as a one-day races this year. In 2012 it was again planned as a four- day event, but was canceled again, this time due to low registration numbers.
Record holder in the men 's Wayne Stetina with three wins. In the women's Lyne Bessette won four times in a row.
