Fogny

Foni ( spelling variants: Fogni, Fogny or Fooñi ) was a historical kingdom in the West African nation of Gambia.

History

The empire was in the early 19th century, one of the nine kingdoms of the Mandinka on the south bank of the Gambia River. It extended it south of the mouth of the Bintang Bolong, which separates the realm of the kingdom Kiang. In the west, adjacent to the kingdom lay combo. In Foni lived, like today, a majority of the members of the Diola ethnic group.

The place was an important port Bintang Bintang Bolong on, where Europeans engaged in commerce.

In the 20th century, the British organized the Protectorate in six districts: Foni Brefet, Foni Bintang - Karanai, Foni Kansala, Foni Foni Bondali and Jarrol. Later the districts of Foni Bintang Foni Foni Bintang Karanai were summarized as - Karanai. In the West Coast region still exist today these districts, take the terms of this kingdom.
